Wellbeing Ambassadors
Wellbeing ambassadors are trained students who promote positive mental health and wellbeing within the school by providing peer support, running awareness campaigns, and helping to destigmatise discussions about feelings and challenges.
The children act as leaders and role models, particularly with new students joining the school and act as 'Buddies' for the first few days. They also act as 'Playground Buddies' for any student who may feel alone and encourage them to 'play with me'. All wellbeing ambassadors encourage a more supportive environment by sharing wellbeing strategies, organising activities, and signposting peers to further support when needed. This peer-led approach helps to create a sustainable culture of wellbeing by empowering young people to support each other.
What they do:
-
Peer Support:
They offer informal mentoring and support, acting as a friendly ear for peers.
-
Promote Positive Mental Health:They run campaigns, share wellbeing strategies, and organise events to raise awareness.
-
Reduce Stigma:By talking openly about mental health and encouraging others to share their experiences, they help break down the stigma surrounding these issues.
-
Organise Activities:They lead and facilitate school activities like assemblies, circle times, and other initiatives to promote health and wellbeing.
-
Signpost Support:They help their peers identify when and how to access support in school, acting as a bridge to help.
-
Feedback and Communication:
They provide valuable feedback to designated staff members about what is working well and where improvements can be made in the school's wellbeing provision.
Benefits of the program:
-
Empowerment:Students develop self-belief, confidence, and resilience by helping others.
-
Early Prevention:The program acts as an early intervention strategy, equipping children with tools to manage their emotions and navigate challenges.
-
Improved Access to Support:By reducing stigma and raising awareness, more young people are encouraged to seek help when needed.
-
Stronger Community:It fosters a sense of belonging, connection, and a more positive, inclusive school environment.
-
Sustainable Change:
By training cohorts of students year after year, schools can create lasting, sustainable changes in their culture.
